Why this matters?
Legal systems have long been built around the idea that human beings are the main subjects of justice.
The more-than-human world is often treated as something to be governed or used. This shapes legal categories and procedures, including what law can recognise and whose suffering becomes a question of justice.
The Courts of the Living competition matters because the next generation of lawyers will inherit these difficult ecological questions, and will need to build new legal imagination alongside other key stakeholders.
